标题: The advance of solar energy in Peru
Photovoltaic energy is one of the most attractive options to replace energy that comes from fossil fuels. If we compare Peru with the Nordic countries, we can observe its advantageous privileged location near the Equator, where it has greater solar radiation most of the year. Peru has a high annual solar radiation, especially in the south of the country, this radiation is divided into 3 zones according to its geographical region; In the Andes there is a radiation of approximately 5.5 to 6.5 kWh/m², in the coastal zone of 5.0 to 6.0 kWh/m² and in the Amazon of about 4.5 to 5.0 kWh/m².

Peru has 7 solar plants in operation, and in UAE Email List the last 12 months 9 more photovoltaic plant projects have been approved, with the aim of adding more than 2,100 MW to the national electricity grid. This strategy is aimed at being able to fulfill the Peruvian government's commitment to reach 15% renewable energy in its energy matrix, mainly wind and solar. These 7 plants contribute to the electrical grid just over 2% of the country's total electrical energy, which is still far below European countries, which support an electrical supply of more than 25%, mostly coming from solar energy.

It is true that despite the low percentage that Peru contributes to its electrical network, it is clear that it has the essential characteristics to surpass the numbers that Europe contributes. There is interest on the part of Spanish companies to invest in solar energy in this country, for example; Continua Energías Positivas, a company founded in the city of Soria in 2008, and which obtained the green light to build two solar power plant projects in Peru: the Pichu Pichu plant, of 60 MW, and Chachani, of 100 MW. T-solar, Soltec and Solarpack are other companies that are operating in Peru.
