Meaningful and effective negotiations require more than statements, goals and timetables. It is for this reason that the UN has focused in recent years on deforestation: this is a key area where real progress can be made. In September 2014, she supported the declaration of New York on forests. This agreement involves many countries and an impressive list of environmental groups and global companies whose objective is to change their supply methods to limit and combat deforestation.

This type of initiative cannot, of course, on its own reduce the problems, but it gives a large number phone number list  of actors the capacity to act concretely. The last reason to believe in the success of the Paris conference is due to the profile and long experience of the actors of the COP21. We have painful memories of the way the Danish government managed the Copenhagen Summit as well as the poor performance of the president of the conference, Connie Headguard, who had to be replaced by his Prime Minister in the middle of the negotiations.

This will not happen in Paris. With Laurent Fabio's , the current foreign minister and former prime minister, the meeting will be led by a person with impressive expertise in international negotiations and a big brain. We also remember with embarrassment the executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Copenhagen, the scowling Dutch diplomat, Yvo de Boer . Charged with leading the negotiations, he seemed overwhelmed by events.
